Smack Happy Design is a one woman design shop founded by Nicole Hanusek. She has been designing and redesigning the Internet since 1998. Not only does she love the Web, but she understands it, too.
Nicole began her design career in Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked for several consulting firms as lead web designer. These firms include OhioOnline, Avantia, and Xteric Technology (now Rosetta). She also used to own a company called Danikk Design. In 2004 Nicole moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. She worked for E-Loan as Web Designer and Developer. Then she moved on to Alexa Internet as the Webmaster and User Interface guru.
Throughout her career she has always done freelance web design and illustration on the side. In 2009 she finally quit her day job to do freelance work full time, and she couldn’t be happier. On several occasions she has been referred to as a”web design goddess” or “css master”.
Volunteering
Due to the nature of freelancing / contracting, Nicole’s schedule is somewhat flexible. Because of this, Nicole and her dog (Joe) went through Animal Assisted Therapy training from the SPCA. Now they visit one of over 90 facilities throughout San Francisco three times a month.
